In the Company of Women

In the Company of Women Art Exhibition by Loretta Waldron. A collection of portraits and poetry in mixed media.

My special Company of Women are leaving the Studio soon!

I love drawing faces and perhaps if the truth be known, I’m a bit obsessed with them! I just wanted to share with you that this weekend I’m holding my very first solo exhibition In the Company of Women . This art exhibition is a collection of portraits and poetry in mixed media of the various women who have arrived at my Saturday easel over the last 18 months.

“It’s time to take a deep breath and take a step into the unknown.”

I’m quite nervous about having people come and meet these women as it’s like they now have to venture out into the world, away from the safety of my studio. Still I know it’s time for others to meet them, and hear a little of their stories that can be found written in their faces. (Deep breath!)

For me every face tells a story of a life that’s known a myriad of emotions and experiences and as I draw the face, I feel I can step into a place in that story and share a moment where words are not needed.

“Eyes are the windows of the soul.”

You’ve no doubt heard it said that the “eyes are the windows of the soul”, and for me, it’s in the eyes that the truth of the story is carried and where the heart is revealed. I have got to know these women quite well after painting and drawing them and having them sit in my studio for a while.

I love experimenting and beginning the journey of taking each face from a few marks on the paper, through the difficult ugly stage and onto who she will become. And I usually keep working until I hear the whisper of her story.

So if you’re in my neck of the woods this weekend, you are more than welcome to join me for the official opening of my exhibition “In the Company of Women”, but if you’re not, or on the other side of the world, I’ll be posting the exhibition in my portfolio/gallery on this website soon, so please pop back and join me for the online version of the exhibition!
